Our Toddlers (2 to 3 years)
We provide an equally high ratio of 1 staff to every 4 children aged 2 and 1 staff to every 8 children aged 3 and over. As with our babies, we assign a Key Person to each toddler with responsibility for all aspects of your child’s needs both physical and educational. As your child progresses through the Nursery, so too does the level of sophistication in response to their growing curiosity, physical ability, and emotional intelligence. The level of access to a range of learning opportunities increases as well as the expectations of staff. Children are encouraged to be bolder, to choose increasingly challenging and diverse experiences and to celebrate their progress and new found skills and knowledge.
By the time your child reaches 2 they will be well on their way to being active learners. We are experienced at observing your child’s interaction with the world and structuring activities and conversations that constantly take their knowledge and learning to a higher level. Great learning also takes place at home and we work closely with parents to capture these experiences and build on them.
Reporting to Parents
Shining Stars Nursery and Preschool invests considerable resources and funds to regular, clear & focussed reporting to parents. You will receive regular updates on your child’s progress complete with annotations & photographs of key developmental steps. You can meet with staff to talk about your child’s progress & will be invited to attend regular parents evenings.
The Environment
Our 2’s and 3’s have their own large space in the main body of the Nursery. This dynamic space changes throughout the year to reflect different areas of the Early Years Curriculum, The Seasons, Festivals and Educational Visits, as well as reflecting children’s own choices.
Communication & Language
Shining Stars Nursery & Preschool delivers bespoke exercises designed to stimulate language development, singing and imaginative play and to increase children’s confidence in their use of language to express themselves and their ideas.
Literacy and Mathematics
Children are provided with opportunities to develop & improve their skills in counting, understanding & using numbers, calculating simple addition & subtraction problems; & to describe shapes, spaces, & measures. Children are also encouraged to look for patterns & sequences in numbers.
Physical Development
We are fortunate to have a large open playground at the rear of the premises, a playground at the front of the premises as well as access to a very large meadow and woodland area at the rear of the location. These provide lots of opportunities for children to be active.
